ABOUT

Mauri Loots

PROFESSIONAL ARTIST

Mauri's artistic practice is first and foremost an exploration of the limits of the body and the mind. She uses performance, sculpture, and installation to represent this complex relationship between said body and mind.

Her works reflect the movement and restriction a body, as well as how the body can be limited by its environment and the physical and psychological constraints it faces. She uses different materials to create sculptures and installations that act as extensions or restrictions of the performer's body and limbs, thus expressing the feelings and sensations within their mind.

Art is the best form to represent this phenomenon because it allows us to explore the emotional and psychological dimensions of the human experience in a powerful and moving way.

Her installations offer an immersive experience that allows the audience to feel these limits of the body and mind palpably while encouraging reflection on how we can free ourselves from these constraints and push our boundaries.

Performances are my main activity but I am not shy with other disciplines such as sculpture or installations. I am also interested in working with other artists and people from other disciplines.

My work takes its roots in the movement, restriction and expansion of the  body. These translate into sculptures, performances and installations made of several materials such as fabric, metal, latex paint, textile hardener et  cetera.

The realization of the work depends on the body in motion and on the available material that surrounds me.

I rarely buy new equipment, as I prefer searching and collecting different types of fabric, for example, that l can take apart and reuse.

The works represent a certain movement the body makes.

The performer  within the installation will be limited in movement and the sculptures function as an extension or  restriction of his body parts and limbs, expressing the feeling of it within the mind and trying to represent that relation with the body.
